Anniversaries: The Clarkes

Al and Myrna Clarke celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 27, 2007, and have several celebrations planned this month.

An open house for family and friends will be held June 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sumpter community Hall.

Also, a special open house is planned forJune 21, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Wanoga Snow Park Hut, on the road to Mount Bachelor, for those in Central Oregon.

The Clarkes lived in Bend for the last 37 years before building their Sumpter home in Eastern Oregon. This has been a dream that has taken 7 years, and is still a andquot;work in progress.andquot;

Mr. Clarke has been in construction for more than 45 years. He has been responsible for a number of large building projects, both commercial and residential on the Central Oregon Coast and in the Central Oregon area.

Mrs. Clarke has been in real estate for 30 years, both as broker and owner. She was andquot;Realtor of the Yearandquot; for the Central Oregon Board of Realtors. Both Clarkes have received a number of awards for their accomplishments in their chosen fields, and their many community service activities.

Most important to Mrs. Clarke was being State Director for the Oregon State Snowmobile Association and Court Appointed Special Advocate for children.

Mr. Clarke served as President of Moon Country Snowmobile for a number of years, Boy Scouts of America Leader, and mentor for a number of foster children.

At present time they are both andquot;tryingandquot; semi-retired life with a number of building and unfinished craft projects ahead of them.

They have three biological children, sons Cary and Kurt Clarke of Bend and Sumpter and daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Ed Landers of Bend, seven grandchildren and a number of andquot;bonusandquot; foster children.
