Barbara Hunt

Barbara May Hunt, 79, died May 30, 2008, in Tremonton, Utah.

Visitations will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. MDT at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, Tremonton.

Interment will be Friday at 3 p.m. PDT at Mount Hope Cemetery in Baker City.

Barbara was born Dec. 30, 1928, in Torrance, Calif., to Gladys and Charles Turner.

Barbara lived a full and active life. She homesteaded 160 acres in Fairbanks, Alaska, with her husband, Frank and two sons.

Barbara loved to serve. She was a 4-H leader and taught many classes on crafts, soapstone carving, egg decorating, candymaking and sewing. In Albany, she volunteered at schools, with the Literacy Program and the Victim Assistance program. She donated many hours of tax help to the low-income and elderly. She loved people and opened her home to everyone.

Barbara was an active member of the LDS Church, serving a Family History mission in Tremonton.

Barbara is survived by her sons: Lynn R. Colvard and Charles (Linda) Hunt; a daughter, Shelley (Gene) Wilcox; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Barbara lived with Gene and Shelley’s family for eight years. She touched the lives of many.

Special thanks to the loving home care nurses and aides who cared for Barbara at home, and the staff at Bear River Valley Care Center.

Elsie Taylor

Elsie Elnore Taylor, 81, of Vernonia, died May 29, 2008, at her home.

A celebration of Elsie’s life will be held Saturday, July 5 at 11 a.m. at the Vernonia Community Church, 957 State Ave. in Vernonia, with Pastor Grant Williams officiating. Private interment will be held.

Elsie was born May 10, 1927, in North Powder, the daughter of Joseph A. (Weise) Nice and Mattie (Smith) Nice. She was raised and received her education in the North Powder community, graduating from high school in 1945.

She was united in marriage to Lyle L. Taylor on June 4, 1945, in Baker. Following their marriage they lived in Baker until 1962 when they moved to Sherwood, later living in St. Paul for a time before returning to Sherwood. In 1978 they moved to Jewell where they made their home for eight years until moving to the Vernonia community in 1986.

Elsie began her working career at the Woodburn post office and later for an insurance agency in Woodburn. She later worked in the marketing department at GAF in Tigard as an administrative assistant until she retired in 1989. She later owned and operated andquot;Pretty Gifts and Thingsandquot; in Vernonia, which was her dream come true.

She was a member of the Vernonia Senior Center as well as several rock clubs.

Among her interests, Elsie enjoyed rock hounding and jewelry making. She also made and sold Christmas wreaths for many years. Throughout her lifetime, Elsie always lived on a farm and had a great love for animals, especially cows, sheep, chickens and horses.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, on April 8, 1999, after celebrating more than 53 years of marriage.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles Nice.

Elsie is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lloyd L. Taylor of Montana and Galen L. and Alicia Taylor of Forest Grove; a sister, Virginia Henderson of North Powder; three grandchildren, Christina Taylor of Forest Grove, Brian Taylor and Jennifer Taylor, both of Vancouver, Wash.; two great-granddaughters, Amber Taylor and Ashley Taylor; numerous nieces and nephews; and her 4-H daughter, caregiver and friend, Kerri Constance and her husband, Wes, of Vernonia.

The family suggests remembrances be made to the Hospice of Washington County, 900 SE Oak St. No. 202, Hillsboro, OR 97123 or to the Vernonia Community Church and Senior Center.
