A baseball league for adult players is being formed in Baker City.
Brandon Torres, who works for Oregon Trail Electrical Co-Op, is attempting to form a National Adult Baseball Association league.
andquot;I’m looking for a minimum of three teams, and hopefully four teams to form what would be considered a competitive recreational league, andquot; said Torres, who has already done the paperwork with NABA and has contacted two local businesses about a working agreement for the purchase of uniforms and equipment.
Torres said he is looking for at least 48 players to form the league. The territory he is responsible for covers all of Eastern Oregon.
andquot;I have already heard from one player in Crane who is contacting other possible players and will get back to me,andquot; Torres said.
According to the NABA website, www.dugout.org, the NABA is organized nationally into groups categorized by age. The largest division, which the Baker City league would be included in, is the Open Division for players age 18 and older.
Torres said he hopes to receive enough interest to get the league up and running by the fall.
andquot;I would like to be able to play some games in September or October if we can get enough interest and get organized, andquot; he said.
Torres said he also would need four people to manage the teams, if organized. He noted that those people also could be player-managers.
Anyone interested in joining a team, or wanting more information, should call Torres at 403-1721.
