Hazel Toney
Hazel Laura Williams Toney, 97, of Baker City, died Feb. 25, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home.
Her graveside funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Haines Cemetery. Visitations will be Monday from noon to 5 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St.
Hazel was born on April 14, 1910, at Muddy Creek to Harry Chatterton and Ida Belle Davis Williams. She married Claude Biswell Toney on Sept. 23, 1928.
Hazel lived at Haines and worked for the Haines Telephone Co., for Walter Heard, H.O. Wiswell and for Vance and Margaret Dix. She also worked at the Circle H Caf for several owners.
Survivors include her three children, Larry L. Toney and his wife, Colleen, of Elgin, Rodney B. Toney and his wife, Marjorie, and Claudia Gilkison and her husband, Robert, all of Haines; five granddaughters, Teresa Olson and her husband, Don, Sheree Evans and her husband, Kyle, Valerie Harris and her husband, Shane, Linda Evans and her husband, Mike, and Debbie VanKlinken and her husband, Steve; three grandsons, David Toney and his wife, Paula, Jeff Toney and his wife, Carolyn, and Edward Toney and his wife, Gail; 27 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ella Williams; and nieces, DeEtte Seaworth, Diane Wilson and Maryann Green.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude; and brothers and sisters, Lena Cavin, Elmer, Maude Neilson, Dora Lethlean and Edward and Russell.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice through Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St., Baker City, OR 97814.
‘Josie’ Keithley
Josephine Mary andquot;Josieandquot; Keithley, 84, of Richland, died Feb. 25, 2008, at her home.
At her request, there will be no formal funeral.
Josephine Mary Crumm Keithley was born on June 3, 1923, at Ottawa, Kan., to Homer and Nellie Noe Crumm. She was raised in Kansas and graduated from high school at Beloit, Kan.
Josie, as she was known to all her family and friends, worked in several professions, beginning as a waitress, cook and at a gunpowder plant in Kansas. She worked in produce for 40 years while living in California. She moved to Baker City, and worked as a seamstress, making drapes for Fern Taylor at Coverworks.
During her life, she enjoyed living in France for two years, also traveling to Germany, Holland and Belgium. She loved to paint and to make dolls.
Josie moved to Richland in 2000 with her friends, Sam and Sherry Cannon. Macular degenerative disease over the years had taken her eyesight, but the love of her friends kept her a part of the life happening around her. She never complained, and always insisted that she had andquot;lived a great life and did everything she really ever wanted to do.andquot;
Survivors include her son, Paul Snethen, and his wife, Sandra, of Pomona, Kan.; two grandsons; great-grandchildren; wonderful friends, Sam and Sherry Cannon of Richland and Ralph and Carol Anderson of Guide Rock, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
