Noel Child

Noel D. Child, 92, of Nampa, Idaho, a former longtime Baker City resident, died Nov. 18, 2007, at his home.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Middleton Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 309 W. Main St., Middleton, Idaho. Interment will be at the Middleton Cemetery. Flahiff Funeral Chapel of Caldwell, Idaho, is in charge of arrangements.

Noel was born on May 10, 1915, at Fairview, Wyo. He married Lorraine Stinson on April 24, 1936, at Payette, Idaho. The couple moved to Baker City in 1936 where they lived until moving to Middleton, Idaho, in 1980.

Noel worked for Eddy’s Bread Co. for many years as a delivery truck driver. One of his routes included the Richland and Halfway areas.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Lorraine Child; and children, Verba Hampton of Canyon City, Richard Child of Nampa, and Vicki Hotchkiss of Calhan, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Virgil Child of Corona, Calif., Vernal Child of Greenwood, Miss., and Myrl L. andquot;Monteandquot; Child of Green Bay, Wis.; one sister, Verda McClanahan of Kelso, Wash.; a nephew, Les Bernard and his wife, Kathleen, of Baker City; and a niece, Nadine Bernard Collett of Tigard.

Eilene Morfitt

Eilene Elizabeth Morfitt, 88, of Prineville, a former Baker City resident, died Nov. 19, 2007, at Pioneer Memorial Hospital at Prineville.

Her private graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Eilene was born on Oct. 5, 1919, at Wallowa to Delbert Dewey and Cora Myrtle Shoemaker Stace. She moved to Baker City as a child. She attended Baker schools and was a Baker High School graduate.

She married Winfield C. Morfitt on Sept. 8, 1941, at Weiser, Idaho. They raised their family at Baker City and then moved to John Day in the late 1960s.

After her husband died, she moved to Dallas. She was a caregiver for Al Smith at Dallas for 18 years. She moved from there to Prineville in 2002.

She was a member of the Prineville Christian Church, the VCH Auxiliary and the Pythian Sisters. She enjoyed bowling and volunteering with the Dallas Care Center and the Senior Center.

Survivors include her son, Gerald Morfitt of Umatilla; sister-in-law, Autumn Stace of Prineville; nephews, Lance Stace of Redmond and Sand Stace of Terrebonne; nieces, Summer Cardin of Redmond and Kimberly Johnson of Reno, Nev.; grandniece, Taylor Stace of Prineville; six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Winfield, who died in 1972 at John Day; and two sons, Calvin and Ray.
